This is the official app to access Wikipedia, a web-based encyclopedia that has become the most popular source of general reference information on the internet. Wikipedia was launched in 2001 and it has over 5.5 million articles in the english version, with millions more in 299 different language. Wikipedia is based on the concept of openly editable content, meaning anyone can write or edit an article. Although this sounds risky, the crowdsourced nature of the site means that users keep an eye on the content for falsehoods and misrepresentation. In one study of Wikipedia’s science articles, the Nature scientific journal found Wikipedia’s articles as reliable as those in Encyclopedia Britannica. If you have a curious mind and you’re always looking for new sources of information, look no further- the Wikipedia app puts the Internet’s best source of information in your pocket!
The Wikipedia Android app has a simple, easy-to-use interface that accesses all the same content available at Wikipedia.com. This free 21 MB app has been downloaded nearly 200,000 times since it was posted in January 2018. It works on Android versions 4.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and up. It was developed by the Wikimedia Foundation, the same organization behind Wikipedia itself.
